Fairfield Club’s Repeat Win At St Andrew’s Open Day
In a wet and cold August, St Andrew’s Bowls Club once again selected one of the better days of the summer to hold their annual open day, when clubs from as far apart as Newport Pagnall and West Ham joined with another twenty sides to battle for the Tom James Trophy. Having just completed Phase 1 of their pavilion refurbishment, the Open Day was an important fund raising event for St Andrew’s and there was a magnificent show of support from all their members to provide such an excellent day for all the players and supporters. With a recent influx of new members to the bowls club, the future is looking brighter, especially as the build up towards their Centenary in 2013 begins.
Paying their first visit to St Andrew’s, the Newport Pagnall team of John Foster, Jim Ingarfield, Chris Cole (The Kings) looked unstoppable in the early rounds. However, in the play-off final, they went into battle with Fairfield ‘A’, and a royal performance from the Bedfordshire side, saw Clive Breacher, Stan Lambert, Keith Young retain the Tom James Trophy for their Club. The second winning Fairfield side in the past two years.
In the third and fourth place final, the Flitwick team skipped by Struart Jennings gained victory over Christine Saunders “Lucky Girls” from St Neots.
