Kitchen Blog

Week1.

The work on the new kitchen has now commenced and so far the progress has been fairly rapid.

The first step was to remove the old ceilings and, as this had to be done under controlled conditions owing to the nature of the materials involved, it was necessary to temporarily seal off the whole area.

The ceiling removal was completed in record time leaving the way open for the demolition phase.

The demolition phase is now complete and work can begin on the construction of the new kitchen.

It is now the end of the first week and the extra support is being added to the joists,

The floors are being screeded,

The tiling is well underway

and the plaster board is being installed on walls and ceilings.

Week 2

The plasterboarding of the ceilings is  complete and the plastering itself is coming along nicely.

I can't remember the last time I saw someone this high or this plastered!

The small window, made obsolete by the opening up of the space, has now been filled in...

and bricked up from the outside with bricks that, once weathered, will blend in with the rest of the wall.

Week 3

The tiling is nearing completion...

The ventilation hood is in place

The plaster in the cleaners' store is drying nicely

and the old ceiling tiles are gone from the Concert Room. Once the grid has been painted, the new tiles will go up.

There will, of course, be a few details requiring attention,

but on the whole thinge are looking very good.
